Moving into a new home gives you a nice, clean slate to start with. In the kitchen, you can get rid of any old Tupperware, utensils, or condiments that have no use anymore. For the living areas, you can buy new couches and console tables to make your home more quaint and comfortable.
Then you get to the master bedroom. Perhaps one of the best home design inventions ever and the ideal room for any child who is now sad they get a regular bedroom instead (definitely was not me when I was a kid . . .).
Anyway, the best part about moving into a new home, specifically taking the master bedroom is that you get to purchase new furniture and style it however you want. Most first time home owners have never experienced the thrill of a full master bedroom suite so this is a great opportunity to learn about what you'll need in that space.
Remember that a lot of what you purchase is based on your personal style and the space you have. Everyone is different and adding in your own stuff rather than sticking with a neutral room will make you feel a lot better about being there.
The Bed
The biggest expense and the best investment is to get a bed. If this room will be shared with two or more people on a regular basis, it would be a great investment to get a King sized bed for you and your loved ones. It is better to go bigger and have more room than get a bed that is smaller and have no room.
Nightstands and Lamps
These are a must-have in any bedroom! Especially if you are like me and have your phone charging by your bed, glass of water, glasses, and reading materials to help you fall asleep, then having one is perfect to keep yourself organized.
It is helpful to purchase nightstands that also double as additional storage. Besides the above, you can store remote controls, medicine, and any other spare items you might have accumulated over time in there.
Don't forget to add lamps on your nightstand to capture the mood lighting better than just your overhead light.
Daybed and Side Table
Having a daybed in your room isn't an essential but it is certainly a great idea if you find yourself using the space for things other than sleeping. Having a separate space where you play on your phone, read, or do some work keeps the energy in your bed strictly for relaxation and rest.
If a daybed isn't a possibility due to space restrictions, a small chair accent chair might be more suitable and still gives you the same effect.
You can even add a small side table onto your daybed or chair for some light storage and easy access during those times.
Additions
Art
A simplistic addition of art like personalized pictures or store bought material add that extra tie in to make the room feel more like your style and show off your expert taste.
Mirror
This sly piece can a great addition to your master bedroom. Hand it by your door and give yourself that quick, confident look before you start your day.
Rug
Finally, a rug ties the whole room together. If your master bedroom has hardwood floors, a rug is a must-have to keep your feet cozy when crawling into bed. Plus it should match your colours and elements to really make your style pop!
