It is your first time buying a home. As you have gone through all the steps of finding, budgeting, and purchasing your new home, you await the day you can move in. The only problem is that there is so much more space that you have no idea what you need.
Yes, bring the personal belongings like extensive book collections, childhood photos, and knick-knacks you've collected over the years. But what I'm talking about is the stuff that you use everyday but always some how forget about. Here is the ultimate checklist for you to remember everything you need for your first home:
Move-In Day Kit
Before we get into the officially packaging though, you want to create a move-in day kit that has everything you need to make it easier. What you'll need is a box labelled "move-in day supplies" and should contain:
- two to three pairs of scissors
- tape
- markers
- disinfectant wipes
- window cleaner
- paper towels
- Phone chargers
- non-perishable snacks
- water bottles
This kit will be your guide for when you first move in: to clean the house, and then rip the boxes open without losing anything. To maximize your energy as well, grab a large plastic bad and put:
- Bedsheets
- Blankets
- Pillows
- A change of clothes
- Toiletries
This will ensure that you are not digging around for all your belongings after a busy day of moving into your new home.
What You Need In Each Room
Kitchen
The kitchen is one of the biggest areas that you have to worry about in terms of smaller items. It is a central part of the home that is utilized for gatherings, meals, and more. Starting off with these items in your home and then you can work your way into buying more personalized items:
- Soap Dispensers (hand and dish)

- Desk and chair
- Bookshelf

Bathroom
The bathroom is another busy place that has tons of needs to make it an effective space. From there, you can purchase the rest over time.

If you celebrate holidays, it is important to keep in mind the amount of furniture and moving you might have to do in order to decorate your living areas for those special occasions. It's also important to note that some homes have more than one living area and can also encompass the overall basement area as well, therefore, this list extends to those areas too.

- Coffee table
- Side table
- TV and Stand
